Kentucky Export Initiative
The Kentucky Export Initiative (KEI) helps Kentucky businesses find opportunities to sell their products abroad. KEI is a partnership of government entities, business organizations and trade experts, with one common goal - to increase Kentucky exports, which will lead to new Kentucky jobs and create diversified markets for Kentucky products. The Cabinet for Economic Development provides staffing and resources to assist the KEI partners in helping businesses recognize business opportunities associated with exporting.
Since 2011, the Kentucky Export Initiative has provided financial assistance to nearly 200 Kentucky companies through the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP). The STEP program provides grants that can be used for a variety of trade services, including:
- support for small business participation in foreign trade missions and foreign market sales trips;
- subscription to services by the Department of Commerce;
- translation services;
- design of international marketing media;
- trade show exhibitions;
- participation in training workshops; and
- other export initiatives determined to be appropriate by the SBA.
